Excel: functions with examples

Excel functions grouped by task: lookups, conditional counting and summing, dates, text and dynamic arrays.

100 entries

This section covers the Excel functions that matter most in data analysis: lookups, conditional counting, dates, text and dynamic arrays. The grid below groups them by the job they do, so you can find a function even if you only know what you want to achieve.

Excel uses the list separator from your regional settings. English versions usually separate arguments with commas, while many European locales use semicolons and a decimal comma. If a formula copied from a tutorial returns an error, check the separator first.

If you are just starting, begin with the “Lookup and reference” and “Counting and summing” groups. A larger example that combines several lookup functions is in the article VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP and XLOOKUP.
